Full of local character, Fore Street in Saltash was the historic entrance to Cornwall for travellers crossing the Tamar and is still a vibrant town centre high street. You’ll find independent shops, cafés, Cornwall's smallest cinema and historic buildings, plus a range of local pasty shops.
Historic Lower Fore Street has older buildings and is home to the Saltash Heritage Centre, Museum and Elliots Shop. Newer
Upper Fore Street has pubs, cafes and a range of shops. Victoria Gardens at the top of the street is a quiet space to stop and admire the huge Monterey Pine Tree which has provided shade to the gardens since the 1850s.
The best time to visit Fore Street is undoubtedly during one of the town's regular festivals, including May Fest and Christmas Festival, when the street comes alive with visiting stalls, music and parades.
