A BRIEF HISTORY
The Burraton Male Voice Choir, previously known as the Burraton Methodist Church Men's Choir, was originally formed in 1964 by the late Ralph Blake and gave many concerts within Saltash and District, singing mainly songs from Moody and Sankey. In 1974 Ralph retired due to ill health, and the baton was handed over to the present Musical Director, Phil Taylor. With several singers recruited from many areas other than Burraton, it was decided to rename the Choir, the Burraton Male Voice Choir.
Since 1974, the Choir has given over 700 Concerts, averaging some 18 per year, raising thousands of pounds for many churches, chapels and charities. As well as being a founder member of the Cornish Federation of Male Voice Choirs, the Choir is also affiliated to the Festival of Male Voice Praise, each year being represented at Festivals in Exeter, Bristol and London.
The Choir enjoys performing with other choirs and bands and has special memories of concerts with the Polperro Fishermen's Choir, Rame Peninsula Male Voice Choir, the Saltash Ladies' Choir and the Royal Marine Band, to mention just a few. They have also been thrilled to sing in Massed Cornish Choir concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Cornwall Coliseum, the Hall for Cornwall and Plymouth Pavilions.
Fellowship plays a major part in the existence of this Choir and meeting every Friday for practice is something to look forward to with many characters present within the ranks. Members of the Choir must enjoy meeting each week because 95% of the year we can boast 90% attendance.
